I attended the OU/KSU game tonight and did hear the explosion. I, like others around me, were unsure at first what the sound was. People soon after began getting text messages on there cell phones saying a sucide bomber was the cause. This caused some alarm, but was lessened when a person with a radio said that the reports on the radio said it was a lab explosion. Fans were encouraged by PA not to exit the West side of the stadium for their safety. However, we were not told by announcers of the reason. The bombing was a person committing sucide, at this point, it is unclear if the person wanted to harm other people.
I understand that officials don't want to cause panic, however do people have the right to be informed of what is going on around them, especially when it involves explosion devices?

I don't think so. There are a lot of people on the radio right now who are condemning the FBI for not telling everyone that this is or is not an al-Quaeda attack on US soil. They are calling the Islamic Society on OU's campus and claiming that the fact that the Society is not answering its phone is proof that they were involved. I think that we should know what is happening when law enforcement is sure what has happened. In the confusion of announcing "there was a bomb," it is quite possible that more people would have panicked and become unruly and there could have been a mob scene. I think that the police did a good job, even though many of us wanted to know what happened. Hope that you are having a good week!
